VISA EMV (Chip) Cards
Beginning August 29, all new issued or reissued Visa debit cards will be EMV (Chip) cards.
What is a VISA EMV (Chip) Card? We all use our debit and credit cards for shopping, eating out, and buying groceries. You can do so with the added security benefits of a VISA EMV (Chip) Card. The new cards are nearly impossible to counterfeit, and travel will be even easier in more than 130 countries where VISA EMV (Chip) Cards are already used. VISA EMV (Chip) Cards do everything magnetic strip cards do but even more securely. See our Visa EMV FAQs.
Using your VISA EMV (Chip) Card:
1. Insert Card: Instead of swiping, you'll insert the card into the terminal, chip first, face up.
2. Leave the Card in the Terminal: The card must remain in the terminal during the entire transaction.
3. Sign the Receipt or Enter a PIN: Either sign the receipt or enter your PIN to complete the transaction.
4. Remove Your Card: When the purchase is complete, remember to take your card with you.
Remember, the VISA EMV (Chip) Card still has a magnetic stripe in case you need to use it with a traditional terminal. VISA EMV (Chip) Cards provide greater financial security for our members. Central will begin issuing VISA EMV (Chip) Cards to our members as new debit and credit cards are opened and as existing debit and credit cards reach their expiration dates.
